Initiatives have always been designed with an ecumenical perspective in mind and conducted in collaboration with health systems, plans, clinics, government, disease assistance programs and health-related associations. Health care needs addressed have included access to care (ACA and Healthy Michigan enrollments), insurance coverage, medications and chronic disease awareness programs, with a special focus being directed toward the needs of the uninsured, underinsured and underserved.
Based upon positive feedback and accolades from the community, the Coalition became incorporated as a Not for Profit (Directorship) in the State of Michigan in 2007 and granted a 501c3 Federal Tax Exempt status the same year. IHHC By-Laws do not require official Membership to participate, nor has there been any requirement for a Membership Fee. Financial support for programs and/or events has been achieved largely in the form of donations, contributions, grants and in-kind services.
